Smashed hanging flower pots on Main Street are the latest in a spate of vandalism occurrences in the Village of Beiseker.

According to the village's Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), Heather Leslie, staff reported to her that this time around four pots were smashed.

"There was one of them a few weeks ago... This is just an ongoing event that seems to be happening," she said. "...The RCMP - we have an open file on vandalism incidents that have been taking place in the village."

The Village posted the occurrence to its social media page in the hopes that businesses on Main Street that have CCTV footage may have recorded something.

According to police, RCMP received a report on June 26 of vandalism to a park next to the Beiseker office and bridge.

An RCMP spokesperson wrote in an email that, 'someone knocked out a bunch of PVC portions in the gazebo in the park, kicked out some wooden panels on bridge. We attended and confirmed the damages and that someone tried to light a campfire on the gazebo.'

However, they were not able to speak to the Main Street vandalism. Mounties said that no arrests have been made thus far.

However, Leslie also mentioned that Meadowlark Trail may also have been vandalized. Though she is unsure of the exact details word has come down that there are concerns that people are vandalizing the trail as well. Leslie said she isn't particularly surprised about the vandalism, noting that there seem to be spurts of increased vandalism in the area - especially in the summer months. However, she said that it's not only the aesthetics of the village that suffer.

"It's really frustrating; property taxes and all expenses are really high right now and when people destroy public property that comes down on the backs of the ratepayers that pay to have our village safe and secure," she said.

As far as the smashed flower pots, Leslie said it is most likely that the flower pots will not be hung up again.

"We've made a decision this morning that we're just not going to replace them and we'll just have to invest more money next year."
