The beginning of a new year means a great new initiative in Iceland, all Icelandic people over the age of 18-years-old are now organ donors unless they opt out. Similar steps are being taken in Ireland.
The organ donation system an auto-approval system. They introduced the bill, after finding that less than 10% were registered organ donors.
One clause that was added to the bill, a stipulation that organs could not be donated if the proposed donator's next-of-kin is opposed to it.
The hope is that families will now sit around the table and talk about the subject. In the hopes it prevents people from finding themselves in a difficult situation .
Do you have a great local organ donation story we can share? Do you think this would be a great for Canadians to have in place as well?
