Calgary Rowing Club Member and Geroge McDougall alumni Olivia McMurray has secured her spot on the Team Canada Rowing Team for the 2023 Pan American Games.

Most recently, McMurray participated in the National Rowing Championship in Duncan, British Columbia.

"We actually placed fourth overall and that was in a final filled with Tokyo Olympic medalists. It was very exciting to be able to perform that well and a huge confidence booster."

McMurray originally helped Canada's rowing team qualify for the Pan American Games back in April but was just recently named to the team.

"Our performance from the qualifiers kept us on the trial list for the games themselves. We came out to British Columbia at the end of August and had a one-week selection camp to make the team."

Being a mini Olympics, the Pan American Games only happens once every 4 years. It is a continental multi-sport event in the Americas featuring summer sports.

McMurray is very excited to be a part of the games, where she will be participating in the Women's Pair, Mixed Eight and Women's Eight events.

"Just being part of not just a Canadian rowing team, but like an entire Canadian multi-sport contingent is so cool."

Her teammates, also a part of the Calgary Rowing Club include Abby Dent, Kendra Hartley and Shaye de Paiva. The Pan American Games take place from October 20 until November 5 in Santiago Chile.
