The province came out with it's updated figures on the COVID-19 pandemic today (April 18).  

They show a total of 165 new cases of the disease in Alberta bringing the total number to 2,562.  One more person in the province has died since Friday's report bringing to 51 the total number of Albertans who have died with COVID-19.

In our area, the City of Airdrie is reporting 22 cases with nine of them active while 13 people have recovered.  Yesterday's figures also reported 22 cases in the city but said that there were 8 people still fighting the virus while 14 had recovered.

The Rocky View County total is reporting one fewer case than the day before with a total of 29 cases, 10 of them active with 19 recoveries.

The province says that 57 people are currently in the hospital with the virus, with 14 of them in intensive care units.  450 cases are thought to have been community-acquired.

To date, 293 cases have been confirmed at continuing care centres in the province and 32 residents of these facilities have died.

Alberta tested 4,092 people in the past 24 hours making 96,897 in total that have received a test.

Canada is today reporting that 33,383 cases of the virus have been confirmed in the country with over a third of people having recovered.  1,470 Canadians have died.

Worldwide numbers are that 2,310,572 people have contracted the virus with 590,682 reported to have recovered.  The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 158.691 people around the world.
