Through all the bumps, stalls, and three years of being in business, 948 Brewing Company was able to hold its official grand opening.

On their third-year anniversary, it was a special day for the co-owners as the long-awaited grand opening was finally able to happen.

"We've been trying to have a grand opening for three years. We opened on March 14 of 2020. We were literally open for four hours on the first Airdrie Ale Trail Tour," explained Kyle Wudrich, co-owner of the business. "Unfortunately for us, we were shut down a couple of days later, by the pandemic."

The plan was to have a grand opening about a week after the Ale Trail Tour and their soft opening.

"Our first anniversary went by still in the pandemic, the second anniversary came around, just as things were opening up again, and we still weren't too sure how comfortable people were with getting together in larger groups at that time, and everything else. So here we are on our third anniversary, and it was time."

One thought that has carried over since the plan of the first grand opening was beard-cutting.

According to Wudrich, David Schroter started growing out his beard at the start of construction for their building but with everything happening, and nearly four years later, it finally got to happen.

Beard cuttingco-owner David Schroter cut his beard in celebration of the grand opening.

"Rival Axe Throwing came out for the day, so people had some entertainment there with a great local company. Big T's BBQ & Smokehouse provided us with ribs and brisket that we could serve in our Taproom as well, to keep people fed. We also released three new beers."

Wudrich explained the first three years of business as a rollercoaster with everything that was happening.

"The closure at first and then you're allowed a small number of people in your establishment and then allowing us to do the patio, outside in our parking lot. then to close again and then open again. It was a bit of a roller coaster. Thankfully, Airdrie has an amazing community and kept us open."

Wudrich is excited to see what the future holds and can't wait to continue making new flavours of beverages.
