An Airdrie Cowboy had an exciting and emotional long weekend at three different rodeo events.

Jake Vold won his second straight Ponoka Stampede title on a day when his great uncle Harry Vold was honoured at the event.

"Winning Ponoka is so special," said Vold, "with the tribute and everything, it made it really exciting to win this one."

Vold won the final round of the bareback competition with a score of 88.75 on the horse Mucho Dinero.

The Airdrie Rider also picked up fourth place wins at the Airdrie Pro Rodeo and the Williams Lake Stampede, as the Calgary Stampede is just a couple days away.

The rodeo events for the Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth began on Friday, July 7th.
