Airdrie's Football team held a big event last Saturday as their season qucikly approaches.

The Airdrie Irish welcomed players, families and supporters to their annual Silent Auction Fundraising Event at the Town and Country Centre on April 21st.

Head Coach Sean Stewart says he was impressed by the turnout and the support that's growing.

"It's a good improvement from last year, we had a good turnout and players helped out and we had a lot of support which was good."

University of Calgary Head Football Coach Wayne Harris speaks to players and supporters of the Airdrie Irish on Saturday.

The evening featured a speech from Wayne Harris, Head Coach of  the University of Calgary Football team. Harris shared his experience of coaching at many levels and pushing for success, regardless of what happens on the field.

"Coach Harris is a great man, he's obviously had a great career," says Stewart, "He's experienced it all so to have him come in and start to support the team and the organization and give that message about what team means...I hope it hit home for our guys."

The Irish have already started their outdoor practices and will be moving hard and fast in time for the opening game of the season on May 27th against the Gators.
