Deseray Regier's day started just like many others.

Deseray was going through her daily morning routine with her family. They got ready to head to school and Regier's daughter got to drive that morning to continue to practice for her upcoming road test. After dropping her kids at school Reiger continued on her drive, unfortunately, because her daughter had been behind the wheel for the first leg of the trip, she had no idea that the vehicle was almost out of gas. She made it back to Yankee Valley Blvd and hit a red light, that's where this story begins

Deseray Regier and her Daughters

Reiger waited for the red light to change, the fuel in her car ran out. There she was stuck in the middle lane of a very busy road during rush hour. Reiger was worried, "Oh no, I'm going to get honked at and yelled at" a pretty stressful situation for anyone,  after only 1 red light a car pulled up in front and put its hazards on. A young man jumped out and asked her if he could help out, thinking maybe she needed a boost. She told him she had run out of gas and was just waiting for a cab. That young man was Tyler Rust.

Tyler was out running some errands when he saw Regier's car with its hazards on so he decided an act of kindness was a good idea and pulled up behind her. He says his parents raised him to worry about others and that he wouldn't be the person he is today without them and that he really appreciates all they have taught him.

Tyler hopped back in his car and ran to Walmart to buy a jerry can and grab her some fuel. She hadn't realized that was what he was doing so she called a cab. By the time she got back she noticed a car behind hers and thought someone had rear-ended her. When she got to her vehicle, she realized it was Tyler with the gas can filling up her vehicle. She did say Tyler scolded her a little bit and her husband would have done the same thing. He was giving her some tips for the future.

Its kindness like this Regier says we need right now and that no matter what side of the pandemic you are on, everyone in Airdrie has been through the wringer this year and we have a lot of good people. "Everyone has experienced trauma this year and no matter what it looks like, there's not one person who's been untouched by this year, no matter where you stand."

As for Tyler, he thinks we all need to work together, "With this world and economy, you know, we still need kindness, you know if we all come together as a team and give some kindness out, it'll make this world a better place, especially with this COVID going on right now too."It's people like Tyler that help makes Airdrie a great community to live in and young men today can get a bad rap, but Tyler proves the saying, don't read a book by its cover. We have some well raised and pretty amazing youths in our city. Because he was so kind, Air 106 made sure he will get a free meal on them but more importantly, hopefully, the kindness he showed will inspire the actions of Airdronians of all ages.
