Five members of the Airdrie Aces Athletics Club are in Winnipeg for the Western Canadian Championships track meet, which starts today (July 14) and runs until Sunday (July 16).

Sara Zinck, Jasmine Szucs, Jinaye Shomachuk, Aidan Good and Liam Hamm will attend the meet as members of Team Alberta.

Jasmine Szucs will participate in the most events of the Airdrie athletes, taking part in the Midget Women's long jump, 200 meter hurdles, 200 meter and 300 meter sprints and possibly the relay.

Liam Hamm will take part in three Youth Men events, the 800 meter and 1500 meter races as well as the medley relay.

Jinaye Shomachuk will compete in all three of the Midget Women's throws, participating in the shotput, discus and hammer throw.

Aiden Good will run the 1200 meter and 1500 meter steeplechase as well as the medley relay.

Sara Zinck will be running in at least two races, the 200 meter sprint and the 200 meter hurdles. She might also be running in the relay.

Coach Jodie Matsuba-Szucs said that all five of the athletes are young for their age category, making it quite an achievement that they have made Team Alberta for this meet.
