A number of young track and field athletes will head to Sherwood Park for the Sherwood Park Track Classic this weekend (July 22-23).

Coach Jodie Matsuba-Szucs says that 24 athletes from the Airdrie Aces Athletics Club will head north for the meet. For some, it will be the last competition of the season.

"It's the provincial meet for the older kids and the end of the season for anybody that's not competing at Nationals."

Matsuba-Szucs expects that the club will have a strong showing at the meet.

"We have a lot of strong athletes that will win provincial medals this weekend. Probably at least ten of them. We should be able to bring home at least ten medals this weekend."

Matsuba-Szucs said the meet will be especially important for Liam Hamm, who missed a chance to compete in Winnipeg this past weekend.

"He was supposed to go to Western Canadian Championships with us last week and he came down sick so he missed it. He was quite sick, and so he's hoping to do quite well this weekend in the 800 and 400."
