Active cases of COVID-19 shot up by 123 yesterday (July 23) in Alberta, which was more than the number of new cases being reported in the province.  

There are now 799 active cases in the province, up from the 676 there were on Thursday.  98 new cases of the virus were reported.

Active cases in the province have increased by 230 in the past week.    

The number of people hospitalized with the illness in Alberta declined to 84 yesterday from the previous day's 93.  Patients being treated in intensive care remained unchanged at 26.

Two more Albertans died bringing the total to 2,322 since the start of the pandemic.

The number of active cases in both Airdrie and Rocky View County (RVC) was unchanged from Thursday at 16 and nine respectively.  

Of the active cases in Alberta, the Calgary Zone of Alberta Health Services that includes Airdrie and RVC has well over half with 473.  The Edmonton Zone has just 155 cases, the North Zone 75, the South Zone 56 and the Central Zone 39.

As of Thursday, the province has administered 5,157,947 doses of vaccine with 75.2 percent of eligible Albertans having received one dose and 62 percent fully immunized.
