The City of Airdrie has announced that on Monday, April 1, it will officially launch its 2024 municipal census to gather vital information about the city’s population and demographics.

"An accurate census means City Council and administration can allocate resources effectively, ensuring residents’ needs are met and our community continues to thrive," a city news release stated.

Residents are encouraged to participate in the census once they receive their Secure Access Code (SAC) which will be delivered directly to their household. Residents who complete their census online before April 17, will be entered to win a $1000 gift card.

"The census questionnaire asks for basic information such as age, gender, number of people in the home, as well as if the home is owned or rented and if it has a separate suite."

Airdrie Mayor, Peter Brown underlined that the municipal census results provide valuable insight by identifying population trends that help Council and administration make decisions impacting transportation, housing, education, emergency services and more.

“It is also important to note that our census data helps Airdrie receive population-based Provincial funding that accurately reflects our growth.”

All census responses are confidential, and data is only used for statistical purposes and is not shared with any other agency or organization. Census results are compiled and presented in a generalized format and will be available on the City’s website when complete.

The population of Airdrie as of April 1, 2023, was 80,649 and reflected an increase of 14.29 per cent over the last census in 2019. City estimates show that in 2024, there may be more growth, with Airdrie adding over 3,000 more residents, signalling an approximate 4 per cent growth.

A municipal census was not completed from 2020 – 2022 due to COVID-19.
