This past long weekend was the first part of the 2023 Football Alberta Summer Games which saw 14 Airdrie youth split up into three teams.

Steve Kemp, the Head Coach of Calgary Metro Colts lost a tough one in the quarterfinals 52-0 against the Calgary Metro Stampeders.

Luckily they do get to play one more game in July against the Calgary Metro Dinos to finish out the summer games while the Stampeders hope to beat the South Knights. Both games are on July 19th.

Kemp is excited to see so many Airdrie football players showing up.

"They're sought-after kids and when we did a draft for all three teams, I know that the Airdrie kids typically went pretty high in the draft."

According to Kemp, he hopes to see the Airdrie kids continue to be leaders throughout the summer games.

Airdrie's football community stepped up so these teams were able to have games this past weekend.

"They had the games originally scheduled in Red Deer but due to the smoke and the air quality issues they had to look at an alternative. On very short notice, I believe it was Sunday afternoon they made the decision to get it changed and get a hold of somebody at the city and they were very accommodating along with the volunteers from the football community."

The two games were held at Ed Eggerer Athletic Park. Where the next games will be held is still to be determined.
