Renovated facilities have the Airdrie Judo Club feeling good as new.

Volunteers spent the summer updating the club's dojo which is located in the Plainsmen Arena.

"It gives a strong atmosphere of professionalism, it helps the athlete when they show up to the dojo and it looks like a dojo." said Paul Hachey, President and head instructor, Airdrie Judo Club.

The renovations cost around $5,000, and included new floor mats, new change rooms, and an updated weight training room. The Airdrie Judo Club donated the old mats to the Airdrie RCMP.

Having started in 1984, the Airdrie Judo Club has seen their fair share of athletes.

"We've had multiple athletes that have come through here and done very well nationally and internationally, so we're just hoping that trend continues and the renovations help spark that new generation that's coming up." said Hachey.

The Airdrie Judo Club will have a booth set up at Airdrie FEST 2016 on September 10th, where there will be providing information on the sport of judo and the programs they offer.

Registration for the fall term will be held on September 12th, 14th, and 15th at the Plainsmen Arena.
