Members of the Airdrie Edge are in Hawaii to take part in this weekend's 36th Annual Aloha Gymfest, taking place January 13-16.

The tournament is known for its seashell trophies and Aloha Gymfest logo medals. It's held at Le Jardin Academy in Kilua on the Windward side of Oahu, about a 25-minute car ride from Waikiki.

According to Trampoline and Tumbling coach Kirsten Kerslake with Airdrie Edge, the competition is more for the experience at that age, and to build confidence.

"The competition gives the atheletes a fun opertunity to prepare new routines, travel with the team, and provide a chance to build confidence in a compeditive situation."

This is the first time the 6-12 year-old artistic gymnasts will compete in Hawaii against clubs from the United States, Japan, Austraila, New Zeland, and Canada. They will take part in the vault, bars, beam and floor events over the course of the weekend.
