After a dramatic finish, the Airdrie FC U13 Tier 1 Boys team secured the gold medal at the Summit Cup soccer tournament, held in Airdrie last weekend (June 9-11).

The club finished the weekend with three wins and one loss. After losing a wet game in the rain to the Calgary Blizzard Alliance on Saturday night, Airdrie FC were slated to face Calgary West Soccer Club (Borussia) on Sunday morning for a chance to advance to the gold medal game. Airdrie FC battled back from a two goal deficit to force the game to extra kicks. Airdrie won the ensuing shoot out.

In the final game, Airdrie and the Calgary Blizzard Alliance kept each other scoreless for 51 minutes. With nine minutes left in the match, Blizzard striker Damion Mix got the first goal of the game. Airdrie pushed back, and the squad was awarded a free kick from 30 yards with seconds. Midfielder Owen Fitchet passed the ball to Logan German, who headed the ball in for the tying goal.

The final game went to penalty kicks. Airdrie Keeper Charles Oguora fought through injuries and stayed solid in the shoot out, while midfielder Ibukun Alabi netted the game winner to secure first place for Airdrie.
