Despite an extreme cold warning that has been issued for Airdrie and the area, with wind chills expected to make the evening temperature dip down to below 40 degrees Celsius, the Airdrie Festival of Lights has announced that they will be going ahead as planned with their grand opening for the season, though it will be a 'limited opening'.

"In past years, when temperatures were this cold, we usually only left the lights on for anyone who still wanted to walk through or drive by. This year, for the first time, on cold days like today, we will have a "Limited Opening," which means we will have the lights on, fire pits stoked, and the concession and store will be open too," the festival's website stated.

The Airdrie Festival of Lights boasts 13 major light displays throughout Nose Creek Park with more than 500,000 bulbs illuminating the pathways. It is Canada's largest free, outdoor, walk-through light display.
