The ten teams in the Airdrie Ladies Fastball League will play in their season ending playoff tournament starting Friday night at Chinook Winds Park.

The Vice-President of the league, Christy Kajmowicz says it's been a very competitive year in the league.

"It"s been great actually. It seems like every year the competition gets better and better. Every team seems to pick up some great girls from all over Airdrie so the competition seems to get better every year."

And why is that? Kajmowicz suspects that this year, it was because of improved pitching on all teams.

"Some years one team will have a really good pitcher and they'll kind of dominate or whatever, but every single team seemed to pick up a pitcher and so the pitching was super competitive this year which made it fun for everyone.  It made it challenging for some people for sure because some people aren't used to the fast pitching. Overall I think people are starting to learn how to hit on the faster pitchers now and it makes it fun."

This weekend's tournament is divided into an "A" Pool which involves the top five teams and a "B" Pool for the bottom five finishers.  The action gets underway at 6:15 pm Friday night.

The tourney is a double elimination tournament so Kajmowicz says while things are scheduled to wrap up with the final games in each pool at 11:00 am Sunday, that may change depending on Saturday's results.
