On March 07th, 2022, Airdronian, Shaun Lee Sandbach, who had intentionally set fire to his home twice in 2016, pled guilty to one count of Arson — damage to property at the Court of Queen’s Bench in Calgary.  

An investigation carried out by the Airdrie Fire Department and the RCMP concluded that he had intentionally set both fires to his residence on 291 Silver Springs Way. 

According to the Criminal code of Canada, the count which Sandbach pled guilty to encompasses, “Every person who intentionally or recklessly causes damage by fire or explosion to property that is not wholly-owned by that person is guilty of an indictable offence and liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding fourteen years. not wholly owned by that person.” 

Sandbach’s next court appearance is scheduled for May 14th, 2022.  

Further guilty pleas which are related to seven other counts may follow, though there is a possibility they may be withdrawn at sentencing. Updates will be provided if and when they are made available.
