Last Saturday the Airdrie PeeWee Storm football team wrapped up their football season with an 88-0 win against the Red Deer Scotia Bucks.
This game was the final of the year between the two Division One Champions of the two 12-man PeeWee leagues. The Storm beat the Okotoks Eagles 62-8 in the Tier One Calgary City Championship. The Red Deer Scotia Bucks won Central Alberta's Divison One Championship.
"We were we're up 40-0 before the first quarter ended," stated Tyrell Rohl, Head Coach of the Storm.
The Storm finished the season with an 11-0 record, scoring 555 points and only allowing 28.
Rohl stated winning this game was the goal from the beginning of the season.
"I know when we won the Tier One Calgary City Championship the week before in Calgary, we kind of celebrated it. The kids were happy about it but we knew that this game was coming. There was a lot more a lot more emotions, more excitement after winning this game."
When asked if he hopes this is the new normal for the storm (always making the championship games), Rohl stated the past few seasons, they have been very close, just were not able to take the final step.
"In 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022, and 2023, three of those years, we were in the Division One Championship game. Two of the years we lost in the semi-finals to the team that won."
According to Rohl, the future is bright for the PeeWee team as they have 17 returning players from this year's team and 24 kids coming up from the Atom program.
"I'm pretty excited for next year, I won't be the same team, but a different variation of it. I think we will be right in the mix that's for sure."
