A 73-year-old resident of Airdrie was pronounced deceased at the hospital after police and emergency crews were called to investigate a single vehicle, fatal collision that occurred after midnight on Wednesday, May 31. 

"Airdrie RCMP and Airdrie Fire responded to a single-vehicle rollover collision at 12:34 a.m., on Yankee Valley Blvd, east of the QEII Highway. A sports utility vehicle was travelling westbound when it left the road on the North side of Yankee Valley Boulevard. The vehicle rolled as it left the roadway," a police press release stated.

Airdrie Fire personnel were required to extract the driver from the vehicle. The male driver and a female passenger - who was the driver’s spouse were transported by ground ambulance to the hospital. The woman was treated at the hospital and later released.

Airdrie RCMP is continuing to investigate and does not believe alcohol and drugs to be a factor in the collision.
