Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) issued a freezing drizzle advisory for the Airdrie area last night but has since ended.

The advisory was in effect for Airdrie, Cochrane, Olds and Sundre.

According to ECCC, the freezing drizzle last night would have caused very icy conditions.

"Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery. Freezing drizzle can produce thin, hard-to-detect layers of ice," stated ECCC.

Freezing drizzle advisories are issued when drizzle falling in sub-zero temperatures is expected to freeze on contact, and over time create icy surfaces.
