On Monday, February 12, a special meeting will be held so that members of the Airdrie and District Soccer Association (ADSA) can vote on a resolution to remove the Board of Directors.

According to a written statement by Keith Mills, President of the ADSA, the meeting was called in response to a petition that was circulated asking for members' signatures to vote out the current board of directors.

"The petition stated: "YES to Vote out the current ADSA Board of Directors".The petition was signed by approximately 10 per cent of the membership and triggered the special meeting. Members are encouraged to attend this meeting, participate in the conversation and cast a vote by secret ballot if the resolution is raised from the floor," Mills wrote.

He added that the board has not been contacted by the people who were directly involved in circulating the petition.

"However, we have heard that rumours are circulating among the membership. We are aware these rumours are causing concern among ADSA members.  We want to assure you that the ADSA Board and staff are still operating the organization, programming and affairs to prevent any disruption to the members and participants."

According to a notice on the ADSA's website, to vote at the special meeting, as outlined in the ADSA bylaws, each parent or legal guardian of a participant is entitled to a single vote.

"In the event a parent/legal guardian has more than one “participant” (i.e., child) enrolled in ADSA, the parent/legal guardian is still only entitled to one vote."

Mills added that he wants to assure all members that the Board of Directors is working to ensure the health of the Association, regardless of the outcome of the vote on February 12.

"A board meeting was held on January 16 to approve the budget for the new year, a critical step that needed to be taken before February 1 to ensure the Association’s day-to-day operations are not impacted."

If a new board is voted in on February 12, the bylaws allow for the budget to be amended at any time.

The special meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Monday, February 12 in the Rotary Room of Genesis Place.
