Time shouldn't be wasted, misused, or regretted. That's the message an Airdrie teenager wants to send to the community.

Bryan Flannigan is in Grade 12 at St. Martin de Porres and recently created a video to showcase some of the feelings he's been having since the COVID-19 pandemic took hold.

"With the last few months being quite a crazy and hectic time, I thought I would use my filmmaking skills to show how I felt about the situation, about how important time is, and how important it is to understand we need to take every moment we have as a blessing," he explains.

Flannigan developed a love for filmmaking about three years ago after one of his teachers suggested he join his Film Studies class.

Filming and shooting the video entitled 'What a Time' gave Flannigan an outlet to express his feelings, something he wasn't sure if he wanted to share publicly at first.

"I didn't know how my feelings about this whole thing would be taken," he says. However, after going back and forth for about a month, he decided to publish the video and the reaction so far has been extremely positive.

"I felt like after seeing some reactions from other people that a lot of people see the same thing about how important it is to know what we have before it's gone."

Flannigan wants people to cherish the moments they have, whether they are good or bad.

"It's important to understand the love that people around you are giving to you and to take every moment in as it is, no matter what."

Returning to school amidst a pandemic has been difficult and interesting, says Flannigan, adding he misses the social interaction of school.

"I miss the times where you could go up and give a friend a hug, or just hang out with them in the den afterwards, or just hang around in the hallways at lunch which is not possible at the moment."

Flannigan says there is a good support system in the St. Martin de Porres school community.

"We have a lot of good teachers that we can talk to about these things," he says.

You can check out Flannigan's video below, which he says was filmed and edited using only his phone.

"I just wanted to show people that you don't always need a big camera or a big crew to make your movies or stories happen."
