Though Chief Medical Officer of Health Doctor Deena Hinshaw didn't give the province an in-person update on the COVID-19 situation in Alberta, the new numbers are in all the same.

Active cases in Alberta rose once again, now sitting at 18,424. Of those active cases,10,456 are variants of concern. Variants account for 56.8% of all Albertan active COVID-19 cases right now.

There are currently 460 people in the hospital and 104 in intensive care.

In Airdrie, there are 289 active cases of COVID-19.

In Rocky View County, there are 210.

On April 6th, the provincial government moved Alberta back to Phase 1 of "A Path Forward" in an effort to curb the sharp rise in active COVID-19 cases.

With other provinces such as Ontario and BC implementing the ban on all non-essential travel as well as giving more authority to the police to ask those who are out where they're going and why, many Albertans are looking to the provincial government to announce whether or not Alberta is headed in that same direction. As of right now, there has been no word from the Alberta government on further health restrictions or giving law enforcement the authority to question those who are out about where they're going.

Over 1,165,000 vaccinations have been administered as the provincial government announced the age limit to receive an AstraZeneca vaccination was lowered from 55 to 40. Albertans 40 years old and above can begin booking their vaccine appointment as early as Tuesday, April 20.
