For today's provincial COVID-19 announcement, Premier Jason Kenney took to the podium to discuss the current state of vaccines in Alberta.

Over 270,000 vaccines have been administered in the past 7 days, with a record high of 59,492 vaccinations administered on May 6th. On Monday morning, when all Albertans aged 12 and older became eligible, over 190,000 appointments were booked through AHS. Kenney says the 2 millionth dose of the COVID-19 vaccine will be administered on Wednesday, May 12th.

1 in 3 Albertans currently has at least one dose of the COVID vaccine, according to Kenney.

"Based on our current supply of vaccines, we expect to have half of all eligible Albertans vaccinated by the first week of June and about two-thirds vaccinated around the third week of June."

A total of 3.8 million Albertans are eligible to get a vaccine. A total of 1,947,004 vaccinations have now been put into the arms of Albertans.

"Alberta is the only province in Canada offering the vaccine to anyone 12 and older," says Kenney, "In other provinces, you have to be older than 30, or sometimes 40, to be vaccinated."
