The Western Hockey League season got underway last night (September 22) for three Airdrie players on two teams.

Gary Haden had a strong game for the Medicine Hat Tigers but it wasn't enough to pull off a win as the Lethbridge Hurricanes beat Medicine Hat 5 - 3.

Haden had one goal and was named the game's third star.

In Cranbrook the Kootenay Ice, featuring Airdrie players Barrett Sheen and Kurtis Chapman came up with a win in their season opener dumping the Calgary Hitmen 3 - 2.

Sheen had one assist for Kootenay in the game.  Chapman didn't see any action serving as the backup goaltender last night.

Tonight the Tigers and Hurricanes and the Ice and Hitmen square off again in the second games of their home and home series.
