For the second time during the COVID-19 pandemic, an outbreak of the illness has been declared at a meatpacking plant located east of Balzac in rural Rocky View County.

The province said yesterday (August 28) that 38 cases of COVID-19 have been found at Harmony Beef.  36 cases are active with just two having recovered.

This is the second outbreak at the plant.  In March Alberta health officials also declared an outbreak with 38 cases reported by early in May.  That same month the union which represents federal food inspectors called for all plants with active cases to be closed for a two week period.
