After dropping a 6 - 5 overtime decision last Sunday to the Medicine Hat Cubs, the Airdrie Thunder didn't want to make it two losses in a row to start a streak of a different kind last night (December 13).

Airdrie got goals from four different players as they shut down the Sylvan Lake Wranglers 4 - 1 at the Ron Ebbesen Arena.  The win gives the Thunder a record of 19 - 4 and 1.  It also increased their lead over the second-place Wranglers in the Northern Division to ten points with two games in hand.

Kyle Bracko, Luke Jensen, Carson McGinnis, and Tristan Paquette were the goal scorers for Airdrie.  Justin Fedoruk kicked out 29 shots to get the win in goal.

Thunder Head Coach Derek Stamp liked what he saw from his troops, especially in the final frame.  "Our structure had been a bit loose and soft plays were giving them lots of chances," Stamp said of his club's 2 - 1 lead after 40 minutes.  "They are a very disciplined team and execute their game plan well."

After having a discussion with his players in the second intermission about how the team with the better details was going to be successful, the Thunder were determined to be that team.  The Thunder were trailing in shots on goal 24 - 22 through 40 minutes.  They came out flying, outshooting the Wranglers 17 - 6 and scored the only two goals of the final frame.

"The guys came out and played a great third period, said Stamp.  "We really controlled the game, both offensively and defensively."

Airdrie has the day off before they travel to Strathmore tomorrow afternoon to face the Wheatland Kings in a 4:45 pm game.

In another Heritage Junior Hockey League game last night, the Mountainview Colts came back from being down 2 - 0 after the first period and beat the Rocky Rams 5 - 2.

Tonight the Colts are in Red Deer to play the Vipers.
