It hasn’t been the season that the Airdrie Brewers were hoping for but they are optimistic as they head into the second half.

The Brewers have a record of 1-13 in their first season in the Foothills Major Baseball Association based in Calgary.

General Manager Tim Kehoe says that switching leagues for this season has been a boost for the team.

“It was good ball in the other league and we really enjoyed being in that league but now in the FMBA, there’s a lot of good teams, there’s a lot of good ball players in Calgary. We’re seeing that every day when we go out. We need to really be throwing well to compete.”

The Brewers spent the last couple seasons in the Parkland Baseball League but felt the travel was too much for the members of the club.

Despite their record this season, Kehone knows what areas the team needs to work on.

“We’ve been a little short on pitching. The fielding has been not bad and the bats have been a little slow but we’re feeling that for our first year it’s been a good learning experience.”

The Brewers are off until July 18th when they hit the diamond to play the Calgary Canadians.

Kehoe says he looks forward to seeing the progression of his team in the coming weeks.

“Hopefully we can get things going in the last part of the season here. We’re going to continue to work on what’s working and work on the stuff that we need to work on. It’s not just go out and throw a ball, they have to come out and play each day.”

All Brewers games are being played this year at the FMBA Fields at 1401 25 Ave NE in Calgary
