Should the suspended NHL season get underway or the CFL start-up their play before the end of June, you won't be seeing the Calgary Flames or Stampeders playing a home game at that time.

Friday (April 3) Calgary Mayor Naheed Nenshi put a large events ban into effect through June 30th because of the COVID-19 pandemic and it includes both city pro sports franchises.

Nenshi says if either league returns to play before the ban is over, neither club would be allowed to play a home game.

"Even before the end of June, if we are in a situation where we think we've seen the other side of the mountain, even if we're at a place where the number of cases are coming down, I'm no epidemiologist but I don't think it's wise to say, 'hey everybody, let's have 17, 20 or 35,000 people all in on space'."

The Flames haven't been on the ice since March 12th when the NHL suspended its season over COVID-19.  The CFL has postponed the start of training camps during the crisis.  The Stampeders haven't played since they lost to Winnipeg in the West semi-final on November 10th.
