During the round-robin portion of the World Junior Hockey Tournament in Edmonton Canada had little trouble as they cruised to a 6-0-0 record and into the final against Finland, a team they had earlier beaten 6 - 3 in the tournament.

Yesterday's game looked like it would follow the same script as earlier Canadian wins.  The team was up 2 - 0 on goals by Joshua Roy and William Dufour after forty minutes and were putting the champagne on ice.

My, how one period can change things.

Finland came back with a pair of goals in the third to put the Canadian dreams in jeopardy.  Then, 3:20 into the extra frame, Kent Johnson netted his own rebound to give Canada a 3 - 2 win which emitted a collective breath taken by all 13,327 fans at Rogers Place in Edmonton and by hockey fans around the country.

Mason McTavish had a pair of assists in the game and was named tourney MVP. He was also the top scored, connecting on eight goals and nine assists.  However, despite his offensive output, McTavish's biggest contribution to yesterday's game might have been his goaltending.

Only second before Johnson's overtime winner, McTavish cleared, what looked to be a tournament-winning goal by the Fins away from the Canadian goal line.

Canada outshot Finland 33 - 31 in the game.  They finished the tourney with a perfect 7-0-0 mark.

Sweden took bronze with a 3 - 1 decision over Czechia.
