Team Canada's World Junior Team kicked off their tournament with a 5-2 win over Latvia.

It was a tough first period as the score was dead even after the first frame 1-1. Connor Bedard opened up the scoring for Canada before Rainers Darzins tied it up right before the end of the period.

Canada caught fire heading into the second period scoring all three of the goals in the frame. Lukas Cormier, Olen Zellweger and Ridley Greig all scored.

In the third period, Latvia cut Canada's lead in half thanks to Bogdans Hodass. With around five minutes left in the third Canada was able to sneak another one past the Latvia goaltender to make it 5-2 thanks to William Dufour.

Canada finished off the rest of the game not allowing anymore goals.

Canada is currently 1-0 in the tournament, their next game is Thursday against Slovakia at 4 pm.
