In the interest of safety, the City of Airdrie has added an outdoor ice thickness report to their website.

While Airdrie boasts four boarded, and three snow bank rinks within its city limits, there's an obvious concern for skaters on its pond and creek surfaces. The site povides a daily report as to the thickness of ice in these areas, as well as tips and information about skating on these surfaces, especially if something goes wrong.

The City does remind skaters that safety on outdoor ice is in their own hands:

"All skaters use the pond and creek areas at their own risk. The Parks Department checks the ice thickness once each week and only clears the ice when it is safe for them to do so (a minimum of 10" and weather permitting)."
