If you were planning on doing any gardening this weekend you may want to hold off.

Environment Canada is predicting a big shift in the weather starting Wednesday night into Thursday and continuing on throughout the weekend.

Showers are expected for the next few days which could also change to flurries or snow.

“Overnight on Saturday there is the chance of some snow and into Sunday, especially in areas to the West of Airdrie in higher terrain and towards the foothills,” said Meteorologist Sara Hoffman.

The wet weather will be greatly appreciated by farmers and ranchers as April saw less precipitation than usual. Normally the region receives an average of 25.2 millimeters of precipitation in the month, but only received 16.6 mm.

According to forecasters, a high ridge of arctic air is moving south and will bring cooler temperatures and only single-digit highs expected for Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
