Cochrane has some very big reasons to celebrate.

Last weekend, Cochrane, for the first time, held the Cross Country Provincial Championships and finished strong.

Travis Cummings, St. Timothy's Cross Country Coach, says for the third year in a row they managed to win silver at the two age school level.

"Our senior girl, Sophia Nowicki, she ended up silver, she was second overall in the senior girls race. I had another guy finish 10th overall in the intermediate boys, and I had two juniors place quite well. So overall I was pretty happy."

Cummings says the success comes from consistently performing at a high level.

"The program is starting to mature and we've done a good job at establishing ourselves as being one of the teams to beat in the Province."

The team did well performing under pressure. Hosting the event added another layer to the competition.

"We had over 900 athletes race on the weekend, the races were full and it was quite competitive. It was a pretty awesome sight to see, I am glad we were able to make it all come together."

The high school racers are done, except for those athletes training for Nationals; while Junior High will be running Club Provincials at the end of the month.

"It was a year worth of work, I am glad we had great weather and happy we were able to host and everything went off without a hitch. I am glad we were able to bring it to Cochrane, we got lots of positive feedback from the province (the Provincial coaches) they raved about the course, the organization was good, and probably the prettiest venue they had been to."

Cummings says he looks forward to Club Provincials as he feels they have a good shot at winning.
