Aaron Dell wasn't without an NHL team for very long.

After being placed on waivers by the Toronto Maple Leafs on Sunday, the 31-year-old Airdrie native was claimed by the New Jersey Devils on Monday and will likely join the team once he clears his week-long mandatory COVID-19 quarantine.

Dell is expected to serve as backup for Devils' number one goaltender Mackenzie Blackwood.

Dell didn't see any regular-season action with Toronto after signing with the team as a free agent in October.  He spent the last four seasons with the San Jose Sharks.  In 107 games with San Jose Dell compiled a 2.76 goals-against average with a .908 save percentage while compiling five shutouts.

It was thought that Dell could turn up in his home province by being claimed by the Edmonton Oilers but the Devils took priority over Edmonton in the waiver order.
