The Thursday afternoon structure fire at the Highline Mushroom Plant was responded to by four different fire departments, including Balzac, Irricana, Crossfield, and Airdrie.

"We got the call at around 11:20 A.M. When our crews arrived on the scene, they found that it was a fire in the air handling unit upstairs on the roof. The fire was contained to that area," said District Fire Chief with Rockyview County Fire Service, Marcus Weckesser. "The cause of the fire is currently under investigation."

Chief Weckesser noted that while this is the second structure fire at the mushroom plant, the July structure fire was small and quickly contained in comparison to last year's massive fire, which saw damages in the millions.

"The fire was contained to the air handling unit, so all the damages would have been with the air handling unit, not to the whole structure. We just had to vacate and ventilate. There was a lot of smoke, which filled the whole building, he said. "

There are no safety concerns about the integrity of the structure and Weckesser said that this fire started in a different building than the previous fire in January.
