While this weekend's snow isn't expected to stick around too long, the melting is leading to some other hazards.

Late last night the Calgary Police shut down part of Stoney Trail at the QEII interchange due to unsafe driving conditions and several collisions.

Temperatures are dipping down so low overnight the water is freezing on the surfaces of the road leading to icy driving conditions. Ice develops more quickly on bridges and interchanges making them some of the most hazardous areas.

The City of Calgary sent out their sanding trucks and the interchange has since re-opened for the morning commute for those who travel from Airdrie to Calgary for work.

Drivers are being reminded to use caution, be prepared for changing road conditions and leave themselves extra room on the road.
