Yesterday (April 18th) Grade 7 students from Ecole Airdrie Middle School presented a cheque to the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation.

It was part of the student’s spring assembly where they recognized the second term achievements of students and parents.

The students held a cookie dough fundraiser and were able to raise $2,046.77.

Teacher Jennifer Yersh said that this act of service has been happening at the school for years.

“It’s one of the longstanding traditions here at Ecole Airdrie Middle School so we pride ourselves on the fact that we have a really strong community and we’re invested in our community and we help give back. Each grade chooses a different organization or charity and they work towards raising money for them.”

Two of the students who participated said it was great to know that they were giving back to those who need it.

“It was really good to know that we’re trying to help children out so that they can have to not spend time in the hospital all the time for whatever reason they have and just knowing that they’re going to be ok,” said Sidney. “I like what our school does to raise money for charities and the cookie dough was really good,” added Christina.

In the end, the Children’s Hospital was thrilled with the donation and Yersh said it’s amazing to see her students excited to give back.

“There’s no greater feeling. That is what we want, we want to know that our students are leaving our classrooms as better citizens and I think that that is case in point right there, they are truly becoming citizens of this world.”
