Shhh... If you don't listen closely you'll miss it... The Airdrie Overdose Awareness Day Event will be hosting its first-ever silent auction over the weekend.

Julie Hazelwanter, one of the co-organizers of the silent auction hopes that even though this is the organization's first foray into auctions, it will not be their last.

"We decided to have a silent auction to help cover some of the expenses this year and to put towards some of the expenses next year," Hazelwanter said. "We had a couple of really wonderful businesses who have helped with this."

Some of the things up for bids are gift cards to local restaurants for the foodies, a massage gift certificate for those who like being pampered, professionally framed photography and art for the art connoisseurs, as well as gift baskets for him and her.

Bidding closed on Saturday at 8:59 PM local time. The silent auction raised around 850 dollars.

"[We] are very thankful for all the businesses that donated as well as the people who came out and bid," said Hazelwanter.

Hazelwanter added they are also planning for another silent auction next year.

Airdrie Overdose Awareness Day hosted an international overdose awareness event on August 31st. The organization's aim is to increase awareness about addiction, overdose, and the current Opioid Epidemic by providing resources and support for family, friends, and current users.
