Twice a year, Alberta has Family Fishing Weekends which means no fishing licence is required.

This year, February 16, 17, and 18, as well as July 6 and 7, you won't need a fishing licence to cast your line. However, it's important to remember that fishing regulations are still in place (you can find those here).
