Here is a chance to support local organizations like Volunteer Airdrie while also watching an action-packed hockey game at the Saddledome Friday, March 24 during Airdrie Day.

The AHL affiliate of the Calgary Flames, the Calgary Wranglers is hosting their first-ever Airdrie Day in partnership with Volunteer Airdrie.

Perry Logan, the Co-Chair of Airdrie Day, feels Airdrie Day is a little different compared to other types of fundraisers.

"The great thing about Airdrie Day, is we sell tickets, people buy tickets, and they actually go to the event. Usually, when you sell a ticket, like a raffle ticket, that's the end of it. A bunch of people from Airdrie will be in Saddledome on Friday."

Logan explained how much these tickets cost.

"We're selling them for $16. $5 from every ticket stays with the organization that sells so anybody can sell the tickets and 100 per cent of the money goes back to the community."

The game will take place on Friday, March 24, as the Calgary Wranglers take on the San Diego Gulls. Game time is at 7 p.m., doors open at 6 p.m.

The Calgary Wranglers have already secured their playoff spot, except with only 10 games left in the regular season, they are in a tight race for first place with the Coachella Firebirds.

"There is a bit of a rush to maximize the wins for the rest of the season to get the best playoff position towards the end of the year. So, it's going to be really exciting."

Multiple other organizations are taking part in Airdrie Day, like the library, Airdrie BMX and the boy scouts, their ticket sale links can be found on their websites.

David Maffett, Chair of the Volunteer Airdrie Society, explains what the $5 for every ticket they sell, will go towards.

"We will be investing the $5 in our youth volunteer corps program, which right now has over 170 youth in it and has been one of the best success stories in terms of our youth programs the last four years."

Planning for next year's Airdrie Day is already underway, which will take place in mid-December. Maffett and Logan are looking for any organization that wants to be a part of Airdrie Day to let them know, so they can take part in it.
