On July 27, Hockey Alberta announced that 28 female hockey players had been selected to attend the Under-18 Team Alberta Female Fall Camp. According to Hockey Alberta's roster, several local female athletes are among those invited to the fall camp.

Airdrie's Emelia McDermid (RINK Hockey Academy Kelowna Female U18 Prep (CSSHL)), who plays as a forward, is among the 28 players named. McDermid previously was named to the 2022 Alberta Challenge All-Stars team. She played for the South Green Team.

Makayla Watson (Edge School Female U18 Prep (CSSHL)), from Rocky View County, who plays defence, has also been named to the camp. Watson has also been named to the Women's U18 Summer Selection Camp Roster.

"As part of the under-18 team selection camp, 46 players – six goaltenders, 14 defence and 26 forwards  – will compete for an opportunity to represent Canada in a three-game series against the United States, Au[just] 14-20 in Lake Placid, New York," Hockey Canada stated in a July 14 press release.

Sade Sandilands who hails from Carstairs will be joining Watson and McDermid in the female fall camp, while Claire Carruthers, from Crossfield, will also join the roster. Cochrane locals, April Klarenbach, as well as Raedyn Spademan, will also be joining.

Chris Leeming, Head Coach of Team Alberta Under-18 Female, remarked that he is confident in the 28 players that were selected, as they have demonstrated the ability to consistently execute our style of play, concepts and habits.

“Because of this, we are excited to continue working with this group, with the expectation that they will present us with some difficult decisions moving forward.”

According to Hockey Alberta, the athletes will be evaluated at the Fall Camp, which runs from September 22-24, in Edmonton, where they will participate in on and off-ice sessions and face-off against three women’s teams of the USports hockey league. Following the camp, athletes will continue to be evaluated by their club teams.

Team Alberta Under-18 Female is scheduled to compete at the National Women’s Under-18 Championship, November 5-11 in Dawson Creek, British Columbia.
