Councillor Tina Petrow's "Hike for Hunger" for the Airdrie Food Bank officially concluded on Sunday, October 15.

Mount Bourgeau was the final mountain to climb out of three, the others included Cascade Mountain (at the end of Banff Avenue) and Mount Allan (located in Kananaskis). The goal of these climbs is to fundraise a total of $10,000 for the food bank while hiking 5000 meters in elevation gain and 60 kilometres in distance.

Before the latest hike, Councillor Petrow dropped that goal down to $5,000. As of Tuesday, the amount raised was around $3,900, which Councillor Petrow is very proud of. Petrow did complete her other goals of 5000 meters in elevation gain and 60 kilometres in distance.

"I am glad that it's over. But I'm happy that I did it. More than anything, the outpour of support from the community towards our food bank made it all worth it."

Talking about the latest hike, even though it was longer, it took less time than Cascade Mountain.

"We finished this one in about 10 hours, were cascade we finished in 12 hours. It was just under 25 kilometres long by the time was all said and done. Elevation it was about 3,000 meters up, but it was brutally cold. There was tons of snow up at the top."

The Airdrie Food Bank has a special place in her heart, due to the fact that when she was growing up, her family had to make use of it when they needed to.

"Since the food bank asked for help, every business stepped up. It doesn't matter whether they were donating to my campaign or starting their own campaign, everybody stepped up."

Councillor Petrow explained stories like these (everybody helping the food bank) are what make her tear up and be so proud of Airdrie.

"When somebody is down and out in our community, everybody rallies, and everybody chips in. That's what our community is."

Councillor Petrow does want to thank everybody who tagged along on her journey over the past 35 days, especially those who were willing to hike the mountains with her.
