Despite not making the semi finals in the Telus Cup, a local family is still proud of their son.

Last week Ryan Straschnitzki and the Leduc Oil Kings bowed out of the Telus Cup after losing their final round robin game to Saint Francois.

Ryan's Dad Tom says seeing his son on the ice in a national tournament was beyond words.

"It was very huge, we were very, very proud. When I saw him in warmup the first game, it reminded me of Timbits when he first started out."

Tom even had the chance to see two of Ryan's games at the tournament in Prince George, which in itself was a amazing experience.

"With all that talent from all across Canada, just seeing where your team compares with the other team. It seems this year, it was anybody's win."

Although Ryan and the Oil Kings didn't make the playoff round of the Telus Cup, his family and the community were happy to support him.

"Especially with all the attention he got from Airdrie. His brother and sister go to the same High School as him...walking down and everybody asking them, 'how's he doing?'"

The Telus Cup wrapped up last weekend with the Cape Breton West Islanders taking the title.
