Canada took the opening game of the 2014 World Junior Hockey Tournament by storm Thursday morning, defeating Germany 7-2.

Anthony Mantha snagged a hat-trick to earn him the game's Most Valuable Player, 16 year-old Connor McDavid added 2 assists, Johnathan Drouin notched 3 assists, as well, Calgary's Mathew Dumba and Josh Morrissey both grabbed an assist.

Historically, Canada improves their record against Germany to 12-0 in the World Junior tournament.

This was a good test for team Canada after a disappointing performance against a high-octane Sweden team in the preliminaries.

Team Canada is coached by Viking, Alberta native Brent Sutter. Previously, Sutter has coached Team Canada to 2 gold medals in 2005 and 2006 and has never lost a game in international play.

Next up for Team Canada will be the Czech Republic on Saturday, December 28 - 9:30am start time.
