The Airdrie Irish and the other six teams in the Alberta Football League (AFL) are on a league-wide bye for the Canada Day weekend.

As the Irish celebrate and prepare for their July 9th home encounter with the Calgary Wolfpack, they've named three standouts from their 20  - 20 tie with the Edmonton Elite last weekend as players of the week.

Slotback Jacob Williams received the nod as the top offensive player.  Williams piled up 142 receiving yards and a touchdown in leading the Airdrie offense.

The defensive player of the week was tackle Daniel Silliker who made three solo tackles against the Elite and had one sack.

Finally, the special teams player of the week went to running back Peter Enola who rolled up a total of 122 kick return yards, 58 in kick-offs and 64 through punt returns.

The Irish jumped out to an early 10 - 0 lead against the Elite before it slipped away with Edmonton scoring 20 points by half-time to take a 20 - 10 lead.  Airdrie came back to score 10 fourth quarter points with Sam Haeni kicking a last second field goal to tie the game.

The Irish have a 2-1-1 record in four games this season and sit second in the AFL standings behind the 4-0-0 Cold Lake Fighter Jets.
