As a politician, Nathan Cooper is likely used to having to shake a few hands, maybe make a speech or wave from a parade float on statutory holidays.

Now though, as the new Speaker of the Legislative Assembly for the Province of Alberta, Cooper has to host an entire day's events during Canada Day 2019.

The Olds-Three Hills-Didsbury MLA will play host to visitors as they enjoy Canada Day at the Alberta Legislature tomorrow (July 1).  The festivities run from noon through 9:00 pm and include a variety of things the entire family can do.

The afternoon will kick off with the singing of O Canada by Cara Lianne McLeod, followed by greetings from provincial leaders.  Performances on the day will include one from three-time world champion hoop dancer and electronic dance music producer Dallas Arcand who's known by the name DJ KZK,

The day's highlights include the Legislature Building Open House which runs from 12:30 pm until 5:00 pm with the last entry at 4:30 pm.  The Legislative Assembly Visitor Centre will be open from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm and the last entry will be at 5:30 pm.

The Borealis Gallery is currently featuring the powerful exhibition Where are the Children? Healing the Legacy of the Residential Schools.  The Pehonan Theatre is featuring the 11-minute film Our People, Our Province.

Family activities will be running all around the legislature grounds.
