Welcome to awards season! And the endless round of good - and bad - fashion.

There are a few stars who pretty much never put a foot wrong and understand that understated can be so much classier than throwing everything but the kitchen sink - or if you're Bjork, AND the kitchen sink - on your body.

I mean, I get up at 4 am so I think I can be forgiven the occasional fashion faux pas - yes, there are days when I get to the studio and realize my socks don't match. But these people have stylists and a LOT of money, for heaven's sake. They should have a better chance of getting it right than this lowly news reporter, right?

Golden Globes were on last night. There were some stunning looks - and some stunning disasters. Just my humble opinion, but here's what this fashion police wannabe thought.

Hits:

Emma Stone (The Help) looked wonderful and knew what shades of red and purple would work for her ginger hair and complexion.

Rooney Mara (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) was stunning in a Nina Ricci black dress with cut outs. She's really embraced a new glammy style since getting a makeover for the movie. Her style used to be much softer and romantic. I like this, though.

Natalie Portman - Gorgeous and elegant.

Josh Brolin and Diane Lane - This pair just looked really old Hollywood - glamorous but classy.

Evan Rachel Wood - if you're going to go for that peacock look, this is the way to do it!

And Leo knows how to wear a tux. That's all I'm saying. Though if Daniel Craig had been there, I'm sure he would have looked even better...

Misses:

Maya Rudolph - Looks like a prom dress AND a sad sack. This just isn't flattering.

Madonna - What's with the gloves, and the abundance of jewellery? She really should have stopped at the dress - though it's pretty ugly, too.

Lea Michelle - Apparently she didn't get the memo about the Miss USA contest being the night before....this is a pageant dress at its worst.

This one pains me. She used to dress so well, but lately Nicole Kidman has been in my "miss" column more often than not. This is just....ugh. Sigh...
